Brown Trout (Salmo trutta)

I caught this pair of browns on the Gunnison River in Colorado. The upper Gunnison River is my favorite trout stream in the USA because of its abundance of various species of fish. Commonly caught fish include brown trout, rainbow trout and the land-locked Kokanee salmon. I caught these on gold spoons. Brown trout are aggressive fish, and one can catch them using flies, lures, or bait. I cast the lure upstream and let it drift downstream while reeling in the slack line. When the fish hits you can feel the bump. Set the hook immediately and keep a constant line pressure. It is important to preset your drag properly. Gently land your fish with a net.

The best fishing time is early in the morning.
