野蘋果的夏天
Summer in Nova Scotia, Canada
If you were to ask me for an image that represents Nova Scotia, this is what I would come up: Cool breezy days, blue sunny sky, white, wood-framed New England styled house sitting on a big, wooded lot with ocean views. Apple trees in the yard with a bunch of apples fallen on the ground. Nova Scotia is more New England than New England itself. We drove all over Nova Scotia, from Halifax to Atlantic coast, to Fundy Bay, Prince Edward Island and then to Cape Breton Island. The land is beautiful, unspoiled, sparsely populated, and rich in natural resources and maritime history.

Wild apple trees dotted the NS countryside. And all of them had fruits. One of the questions that I had was: Why no one pick the apples? Perhaps, I thought, that they were too plentiful. The wild apple tasted exactly like Granny Smith's
